Origins of Filip's Line

Filip Tandara, recorded in 1768 as Filip Tandarić, is mentioned as a resident of the village of Lipa in the Livno parish, where he lived in a household of eight people. In the present genealogical reconstruction, Filip, his wife Jela née Bralić and their four sons are known; the identities of the remaining two members of that household have not been established. It is not known where Filip came from or when he arrived in Lipa, as no direct written evidence has yet been found.

Nevertheless, several indications support the hypothesis that the Tandara family in Livno belongs to the family line of Ivan Tandara of Ričice, born around 1695.

Ivan of Ričice had sons named Jure, Petar, Ante and Mate, while Filip of Livno named his sons Mate, Jure, Jakov and Ivan. Filip's son Ivan may have been named after his possible grandfather Ivan of Ričice, and Filip's son Mate may have been named after Mate of Ričice. The similarity continues in later generations, in which the names Ivan, Petar and Filip recur.

Because of these correspondences, Filip is designated in this genealogy as 5.0 – a possible fifth son of Ivan Tandara of Ričice. However, since no document has yet been found that directly links Filip to Ivan Tandara, this connection must be presented as a genealogical hypothesis rather than a fully confirmed fact.

The earliest record of the Tandara family found in the parish registers of Livno dates from 1773, when Frane, son of Jakov Novokmet and Ivanica Tandara of Lipa, was baptized.

The parish registers for this period are incomplete. No Tandara births were recorded from 1797 to 1802, while no surviving records of births and baptisms of children exist for the period from 1781 to 1797. Nevertheless, the marriage and death registers made it possible to reconstruct a substantial part of Filip's genealogy.
